Our Story

P4H started as an multi-group initiative to further help young people transitioning out of foster care. The idea came from P4H Board Treasurer, Adam Gaines, who discovered that many items donated to the Youth Mart on the campus of the Omaha Home for Boys were claimed, but never picked up. He realized that the young adults needed these items, especially large furniture, but lacked a means to transport them.

“The idea was to create a volunteer group whose mission was to serve the youth of Project Everlast and other nonprofits by delivering furniture and household items, as well as collecting donations from around the Omaha Metro for OHB’s Youth Mart,” Adam said. Youth Mart Co-creators Keenan Page and Jim Hubbard had dreamed of having a delivery system for their shop, so the concept of the Truck Brigade took form. “We were off and running – or driving, as it was!”

The mentoring program for Partnership 4 Hope was started in 2017. As young adults “age out” when they turn 19, they begin to lose services and support. This becomes a barrier to their success while they navigate emerging adulthood.. While one time support with furniture was helpful, it was clear there was a need for recurring support while the young adults to figure out how to live on their own and support themselves.

In November of 2019 Partnership 4 Hope announced more exciting news - that P4H was given the honor of taking over management of the Youth Mart! While Partnership 4 Hope was actively involved in Friday deliveries for several years, it was a thrilling opportunity to further expand the work being done by the collaborative partners. Our mission today is to provide community support for Young Adult Former Foster Youth on their journey towards independence through our four pillar model:

  • Youth Mart

  • Truck Brigade

  • Mentoring

  • Cole French Educational Fund

In January of 2022, board member Kristin Lowrey began Access Period, now an affiliate of Partnership 4 Hope. Their mission is to provide free period products to anyone in Nebraska who needs them.

Today, Partnership 4 Hope’s mission continues to thrive from community support and is ever growing to meet the needs of young adult former foster youth.
